This engine is installed in a '90 Geo Prizm, which is basically a Toyota Corolla. Both are built together at NUMMI in California. These pictures show the engine at 264,455 miles. The oil has been changed roughly every 4,500 miles using Mobil 1. Note especially the areas around the four spark plug tubes, Contrast this with a similar engine shown to the right, and the ones on the previous page. |
![]() This engine's owner was only able to produce one oil change receipt. The car had 48,000 miles on it. |

![]() Another Corolla engine, same vintage as the other two. This one has 139,000 miles on it and has also benefited from regular changes. Have a good look inside the filler neck, at the gear teeth. |

![]() This is my engine. This engine had 200,000 miles on it when this picture was taken. Oil changes were done every 3,000 miles or less, with Castrol GTX 5W-30 year-round. Note the "varnish", or the brown film on the parts. This is normal with mineral oils. The oil had been in for 2,000 miles at the time of this photo, so was a little brown anyway. With fresh oil, the picture would look a little more like Philip's engine, above. |
